Famous Yellow Diamonds

Yellow Diamonds

Discovered in South Africa in 1877, the stone was purchased by New York jeweler Charles Tiffany. His gemologist, George Frederick Kunz, studied the gem for a year before beginning to cut it; reducing it from 287 carats (57.5g) to its current size. The cutting was carried out in Paris.
One of famous yellow diamond is the Tiffany Yellow Diamond. The Tiffany Yellow Diamond is one of the largest yellow diamonds ever discovered; it weighed 287.42 carats (57.484 g) in the rough when discovered in 1878 in the Kimberley mine in South Africa, and was cut into a cushion shape of 128.54 carats (25.708 g) with 90 facets
"In 1879, the Tiffany branch in Paris obtained the Tiffany Diamond, which weighed 287.42 carats in the rough. It was the largest yellow diamond found up to that time. The formidable task of supervising the cutting of this extraordinary stone was the responsibility of one George Frederick Kunz (1856-1932).The cutting process took exceptional courage and insight. Kunz added an additional 32 facets to the accepted square antique brilliant cut, bringing the total to ninety. The result is an exceptionally scintillating cut which returns a great deal of light to the eye. Large diamonds of comparable brilliance were not fashioned until well into the 20th century.

The gem was on loan from Tiffany & Co. to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. and was on display from April 18th, 2007 until September 23rd, 2007. At the time, Jeffrey E. Post, the museum`s gem curator, said that this is the largest diamond on display in the U.S. The diamond is known to have been worn by only two women, Mrs. Sheldon Whitehouse in 1957 and Audrey Hepburn in 1961.

At present, yellow diamonds are as famous as most of the celebrities wore it like:

Rare Pink Diamonds

UnhideWhenUsed="false" QFormat="true" Name="Title"/>

Pink diamonds are commercially rare, highly valued, and greatly admired. Pink diamonds get their color from the rough diamond’s internal molecular structure.

 Famous Pink Diamonds:

                                              GRAFF PINK DIAMOND
The stone is classified as “fancy intense pink” – the best rating for a pink diamond, by the Gemological Institute of America. The emerald cut diamond is mounted on a silver ring with 2 flanking field-shaped diamonds. The rare 24.78 carat pink diamond, once owned by American celebrity jeweler Harry Winston, has been described as "one of the greatest diamonds ever discovered". The diamond, mounted in a ring, was became the most expensive single jewel ever sold at auction. This rare pink diamond smashed the world record for a jewel at auction, having been sold for $46m at Sotheby’s Geneva in November 16, 2010. The 24.78-carat stone was bought by renowned London jeweler Laurence Graff, and immediately named the Graff Pink.

                                                   HORTENSIA DIAMOND
The diamond weighs 20 carats (20.53 metric carats) is pale orangey-pink, rather flat and rectangular in shape and is cut on five sides. This peach color diamond was named after Hortense de Beauharnais, Queen of Holland - Josephine’s daughter and the step-daughter of Napoleon Bonaparte. After Louis XIV bought it, the Hortensia became a part of the French Crown Jewels. It can be viewed in the Louvre museum in Paris.

                                                    DARYA-YE NOOR
Weighing182 carats, (36.4 g), this is one of the largest pink diamonds in the world. Its color, pale pink, is one of the rarest to be found in diamonds. In 1965, a Canadian team conducting research on the Iranian Crown Jewels concluded that the Darya-e-Noor may well have been part of a large pink diamond that had been studded in the throne of the mughal emperor Shah Jehan, and had been described in the journal of the French jeweler Tavernier in 1642, who called it the "Diamanta Grande Table". This diamond may have been cut into two pieces; the larger part is the Darya-e-Noor ("Sea of Light").

NOOR-OL AIN (the light of the eye)
It is one of the largest pink diamonds in the world and is believed to have once formed part of an even larger gem. The principal diamond mounted in a tiara of the same name made for Iranian Empress Farah Pahlavi's wedding to Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in 1958. The diamond is believed to have been recovered from the Golconda mines in India and was brought into the Iranian Imperial collection after the conquest of that country by Nader Shah Afshar in the 18th century.

                                        STEINMETZ PINK DIAMOND
The Steinmetz Pink is the largest known diamond weighing 59.60 carats (11.92 g) and having been rated Vivid Pink by the Gemological Institute of America. As a result of this exceptional rarity, the Steinmetz Group took a cautious 20 months to cut the Pink. It was unveiled in Monaco on May 29, 2003, in a public ceremony.

Some famous people who wear Pink Diamond:

Jennifer Lopez got an engagement ring with the 6.5 carat pink heart shaped diamond.
